I met with Shawn and Kathy face to face for an interest meeting. It was at this meeting I knew that GPS was the place for me. I have a medical condition called Hoshimoto’s disease – it affects my thyroid and autoimmune system. I told Shawn this during our meeting and I was blown away at his medical information and how he linked that to my diet and how I feel. He was educational and informational. I signed up that night and there was no looking back! I was nervous and wondering what I really signed up for and how was I going to stick to this!
Little did I know that the coaching I would get from Shawn and Kathy would be more than I could have ever imagined. The detailed food plans, the accountability, the encouragement and most importantly the swift kick in the rear to remember my goals. When I doubted myself or had millions of questions- they were quick to remind me of my “Why”, answer each question with patience and grace and then tell me to stop making excuses! I started eating things I would have never tried on my own and the recipes were soo good. It didn’t feel like a diet… that’s because it’s not! That’s when my thinking changed- I started looking at food as FUEL for my body. I learned how my body responds to certain foods, alcohol, sleep and exercise. I started making progress in my weight goal, but that isn’t what mattered most to me.
What mattered most was that I used my “why” (my children and my family) to focus on myself again. I am mom, a wife, currently in grad school full time pursuing my masters in school administration and working part time. Finding the balance seemed impossible, but this program allowed me to refocus on me and reminded me that if I am happy and healthy everything else falls into place naturally! I am worth it! I say this to any moms that read this- you Matter- make time for you, I know it seems selfish, but I am a better mom because I took care of myself! Even my children recognized my changes and now want to make healthy choices and exercise! Making the commitment to be a better me is the best decision I have made… and I am so thankful for GPS’s support along the way! I tell them all the time I am so grateful for what they taught me, how they coached me and most importantly how they reminded me to do this for my “WHY”!
I wanted to send you a message to thank you for everything you’ve done to encourage me along my journey to be healthy and strong! Notice I didn’t say weight loss journey – although that’s the reason I reached out to you initially.
I would always read the emails you sent and one just really resonated with me in the fall. You see I was always looking for a quick weight loss fix and would lose the weight then gain it right back……and my eating habits got worse and worse.
I met with you both in the fall and after bearing my soul – Shawn told me I definitely had some “issues” lol but that with structure and accountability he felt like you could help me. I signed up for the 12 week individual nutrition program and started eating cleaner; however, the workouts were not a high priority for me.
After the first of the year (and the end of the 12 weeks) I had lost some weight……but still needed more structure and accountability. We decided an additional 12 weeks would be in my best interest. I made a commitment to try to work out more and made it a priority – and guess what? The more I came to Get Phit the more I wanted to be there….and I so look forward to seeing familiar faces there. The environment at Get Phit is so incredibly positive (I know that sounds like such a cliche) but it’s so true. I am not the most athletic or strong – and I’m kinda klutzy in the gym…….but I’m showing up – and running my own race.
I have also learned that the scales don’t define me……they are just one part of the equation. My clothes fit better……there is a little more pep in my step……and I’m proud to be headed to a more healthy me!
I was so excited when you measured me this past weekend and to have lost 18 inches and I don’t share that to brag….but I want to encourage anyone who might not being seeing results on the scale! (and when I told my daughter who is 14 that I’d lost 18 inches she looked at me funny – and said “hum…..how tall are you now then?”…..to which I replied…….4’1”!!:)
God bless you all and thank you Get Phit for always making me feel so welcome! It’s an honor to sweat along side you!
October of 2019, an old high school running buddy, challenged me to a body building competition in May of 2020. Like the knucklehead that I am I accepted. Not really having much of a direction, except for what you watch and read.
The struggle is real! It really is amazing what your body can do with a lifestyle change, I really hate the word diet. Not only am I getting into some of the best shape of my life, I have learned what my body wants and needs to excel for certain workouts. The timing of when and how often I eat. Shawn is a true wizard and the best coach and nutritionist anyone could ask for. Without him, I would still be sitting at the gym on Youtube for my next set. Thank you Shawn and Kathy, for all that you do. You both are changing lives!”
As you see, this step by step, slow and steady process is working. You can see as the seasons are changing, so is Ben….not just his physique (which is making amazing progress) but his mindset too!
Not everyone can do what Ben has accomplished. Some need a generalized meal plan; or, depending on goals, a custom meal plan. We can help with those too; but, even with these plans, it all boils down to slow and steady progress. We want client success for a lifetime!
Yes, Ben has achieved a lot over this last year, BUT; what matters the most to us, is where he will be in five years, and ten years. When we say we our “allin” it is for a life! It is not about huge masses of people, it is about that one person, that one life that we can IMPACT….. IMPACT OVER EVERYTHING!
“Change your mindset to change the outcome.”
Want to know my secret? Shhh, come close, I’ll tell you… stop dieting! Make a lifestyle change by understanding what works for you. Proper and APPROPRIATE nutrition are they key to sustained success! Stop beating yourself up over every slip up (I had a cookie last night! And I’m not mad!), and work towards small changes and improvements every day. This doesn’t happen overnight so don’t treat it like it should. Persistence and consistency in your lifestyle will change the outcome of the future.”
#transformationtuesday is NOT always about the scale! In fact, there are a lot of us that should say “screw the scale”! We LOVE when our clients transform their Mindset and Nutrition! You want the “secret sauce”? BOOM! Here ya go…
“The habits you created to survive will no longer serve you when it’s time to thrive. Get out of survival mode. New habits, new life.”
The picture on the left is not the most flattering picture of me, but I’ve kept it all these years to remind me of where I NEVER want to be again.
I was sick. I had very little energy. I worried about every bite that went into my mouth. I counted every calorie, and I NEVER ate carbs (breads, crackers, pizza, etc). I weighed myself daily, and I gauged my happiness based on what the scale said. Having it say anything more than 122lbs absolutely ruined my day. I placed a mandatory 1,000+ calorie a day burn on myself in order to keep the weight off. That Diet Pepsi I’m drinking? (Well, it’s in the non-cropped version)
Fast forward 14 years — I’ve learned that the scale is just a number (and quite frankly, I hate it and pay it no mind). I eat when I’m hungry, and I eat the appropriate amount of food for my activity level. When I started working with my nutrition coach last year (Shawn Michael), I was still (STILL!!) underfeeding myself. Once I fixed my nutrition, I started getting faster and stronger. I am WINNING races and beating my PRs! I am able to go on a long run and still have energy for the rest of the day to be present with my family. I am happier, healthier, and stronger now, not just as an athlete, but as a wife and a mother.
Until you get your nutrition right, nothing is going to change.”
Before I started this journey, I felt like my life was stuck in a rut. Things that I thought was going to happen in my life didn’t happen and doors that I thought were going to be opened to me were being closed.
I started this 12 week program with the goal of getting healthier physically and looking better, but I ended up getting so much more than that. While the past 12 weeks were definitely not easy, I learned the value of discipline in every area of my life. I feel like a completely different person!
I can now say that I am a much happier and healthier individual. I no longer hate what I see when I look in the mirror. My fitness journey is not complete yet, but thank God I’m not where I used to be! If you’re reading this and you feel like I did when I started this journey about 12 weeks ago, know that there is hope and strength available! I want to encourage you by saying that change is possible! YOU CAN DO THIS!’ “And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.”Philippians 1:6
Fast forward to the past 12 weeks…I started working with Shawn @getphit2 . He told me what to eat (I hated him for the first 2 weeks), how to exercise, and that I couldn’t have pizza (yet). He probably thinks we are the whiniest people ever. I began to fuel my body with healthy food (6 times a day!!!), began lifting weights, and began to develop a new mentality. I wanted pizza and burgers in the beginning, but as I learned to discipline myself, I no longer desired those foods.
Here’s to a healthy mom, wife, and friend (people are watching, especially little ones). So, #noexscuses ! Show up to parties with your own Tupperware (they will laugh but then the compliments follow), make yourself a priority (there’s only ONE you), and #love your body!! #discipline is HARD but YOU are worth it. And exercise is great #therapy !! Thank you Shawn and Kathy for your expertise, yummy recipes (good food- not “diet” food), #workout buddies, and a new friendship! Thank you Ricky for believing in me, #motivation , and #encouragement
My success is credited to the owners (previous and new) and their incredible staff of trainers! Because of their belief in me and their support, my determination had me back in studio 3 weeks post surgery doing my workouts with everyone else. I hiked Hanging Rock at just past 3 months (I didn’t let that terrifying warning sign scare me away)!
I have goals. I still can’t get the scale to that magic number and I need to work on my balance. I’m beginning to not focus on that number so much. Getting stronger and staying healthy are what keeps improving my quality of life.
I’m not good with words. So I asked my friend and fellow Battle Queen, Treva Michelle Carter to help inspire me. I love what she wrote so much I’m going to share it with you and also keep it on hand as a reminder to keep trying until.””
Jim Rohn once said “How long should you try? Until.”
Until your defeat becomes your feet, the steady run, walk or jog needed to overcome. Until your fullness becomes hunger, hunger for perseverance and the mindset to be better. Until your destiny is your reality, realness so raw that you eat, sleep and breathe your successes. Until your seconds turn into fulfilled minutes. Until your minutes turn into satisfied hours. Until your hours turn into completed days. Until your days turn into accomplished months. Until months triumph into years and you are standing at the finish line! Breathing in the new life that you created, that you fought through, my journey is not your journey and my end is not your end. But we all have an “until”, reach it, touch it, work it and then go. Until……
In addition, my triglycerides dropped to 53.
Booya! Last year – mostly doing cardio type workouts the lowest level was 77. This year concentrating on weights for my workouts has made the biggest impact to my overall health.”
Meet Dorcas and hear why she is smiling more and enjoying life with us at Get Phit Studio.
“I started my journey at GPS when a friend invited me to visit (Thanks Karen Cheek) knowing that I needed to make a change. I also needed some time for myself. I knew I was overweight and needed to lose some weight.
Kim & Jeff B. Family
If I can do it with two monster children hanging on me…you can too! I already feel so much more comfortable in my skin and I’m so stoked on what the end of my 90 days will bring!”
It’s not easy taking care of two little ones (who are adorable BTW) and trying to take care of yourself too.
Shannon we are so Proud of you and excited you have trusted us to guide you with your nutrition and making this a lifestyle change. You got this little momma!
“HIIIIIII, me again, with two monsters! I am down 17 pounds in two months and feeling so good! Kathy DiNatali is the freaking BOMB-DOGGITY! (That’s still a thing, right?) I eat tons of delicious food every day! YOU DONT NEED TO STARVE TO LOSE WEIGHT. Let me go ahead and say it again for the person in the back… STARVING YOURSELF, DEPRIVING YOURSELF… IS NOT HOW YOU LOSE WEIGHT. IT IS NOT HOW YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF. Make good choices. Count those macros. (Or don’t) And enjoy life.”
Monica & Jason
Is it okay to have ice cream, yes, just not everyday. It is an occasional indulgence!
To be honest, when I started this journey I had no idea how much it was going to help control my MS pain. By cutting out the bad carbs, unhealthy amounts of sugar, and processed foods helped with my inflammation.
Yes usually come back for more pain but always good pain! Haha Yes there have been times I’ve fallen off the wagon and had set backs but I always find myself craving those encouraging words and kick ass work outs. From picture B to picture C was when I started Get Phit Studio 2.0! I wish I would’ve known about Get Phit Studio 2.0 sooner!
Today I look back, look back only to see growth. I decided to start making big changes in my life about a year ago. I started going to the gym, eating better but just couldn’t make it work.
I was setting unachievable goals in record timing. Day in, day out, no real results. I was so sick and tired of being sick and tired, of my poor choices, eating habits… all of it. I really started seeking God in this time, and felt an urgency on my health mentally and physically. Although I never found that magic pill; I found something better! I found a community of loving people that know the struggle, and help me see my strength and progress.
PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION!
It’s a place to go and get all the support from loving and caring people that are genuinely there for YOU! Learn to love and accept yourself and I am learning to do so myself. You will not regret the choice! In the first picture I never realized how big I had gotten because I never took picture of anything really from the neck down. Looking back I can’t believe how far I let myself go. I was almost 300 lbs.
If you are scared, now is the time to get healthy for you! Find your why and get that motivation!
I have always let my results speak for me no matter what I’m doing. Like I’ve said many times before I love this place and everyone involved.
Most of you know I have lost and maintained an over 100 pound weight loss. There is no magic pill. You do have to work at it. Don’t you think you are worth the effort? I do.
I have pushed myself to do things I’d never have believed I could do. The trainers will help you modify EVERY exercise if you need to modify them. The meal plan is doable, and maintainable…nothing fancy or special anything….just food.
There’s even a 4:30 class …so teacher friends, you can go right after school!!
I had tried so many things to try and lose weight and it was only a temporary fix. I always gained my weight back so I was very hesitant about trying something else. But this was the best decision I’ve ever made. It’s easy to follow eat off the meal plan and go to the classes and exercise at home.
If you are a new Get Phit family member or have been with us a while just know that you are at the right place with the right people.
Thanks again to the awesome staff for making this a place that we all can come to and be comfortable on our journey to Getting Phit and Healthy!
